Colorado Springs Police have arrested five Iraqi men for their connection to a sexual assault of a woman.
CSPD tells us a woman was going for a walk to check her mail at the Wildridge Apartments in the 2400 block of Gold Rush Drive around 1:30 a.m. on July 21st. Gold Rush Drive is near the Southgate shopping area by S Nevada Ave and Lake Ave. When she went outside, she heard a disturbance among a group of men. The victim told police that the men appeared angry and looked as though they wanted to hurt each other. The woman decided to stand between the two groups in an attempt to calm them down.
Following the fight, the victim says she was invited inside the apartment of one of the men. When she entered, there were three other young men who appeared to be in their early 20s. The victim says they talked about how difficult it was living in a foreign country, as she had lived in foreign countries herself.
During their conversation, the victim says she was given what she believed was lemonade and has no recollection after that.
The woman ended up at Memorial Hospital Central with significant internal injuries with blunt force trauma and serious bodily injuries, according to police.
Detectives conducted an extensive investigation and arrested the following suspects for sexual assault:
Sarmad Fadhi Mohammed
Jasim Mohammed Hassin Ramadon
The following men were arrested for accessory to the crime:
Mustafa Sataar Al Feraji
Ali Mohammed Hasan Al Juboori
Yasir Jabbar Jasim
All arrested are Iraqis who obtained a Lawful Permanent Resident status within the past 5 years. All are deportable for felony sexual assault.
